Pressure washer quick connect sizes

Pressure washer nozzles snap into the wand with a 1/4" quick connect on Ryobi’s and Sun Joe’s. The high-pressure hose screws on with M22 threads (14 mm or 15 mm versions) or 3/8" pipe thread, and 3/8" quick connect adapters fit either.

Ryobi’s and Sun Joe’s nozzles and Sun Joe’s foam cannon have 1/4" quick connect plugs. Generac’s 2900 psi wand takes its nozzles in a quick-change collar.

  • On a wand with a collar, pull the collar back, push the nozzle in and let the collar go, then check that the nozzle is locked in place.

Generac’s 2900 psi gun and wand join with M22 threads. Simpson’s 80178 professional gun has a 1/4" female NPT outlet for the wand.

  • Find which one your machine has in its manual, or from the old hose’s fittings, before you choose a hose.
  • A 14 mm part and a 15 mm part need an adapter between them. Sun Joe makes a 14 mm male to 15 mm female M22 adapter.
  • Hoses with 3/8" pipe thread exist too: Milton’s 3/8" hoses have 3/8" male NPT ends.

Pressure ratings

Every part on the high-pressure side needs a rating for your machine. Generac’s 2900 psi washer comes with a hose rated 3100 psi, Ryobi rates its nozzle set for washers up to 3300 psi and Sun Joe its foam cannon up to 3000 psi. Turn the machine off and squeeze the trigger to let the pressure out before you change a nozzle or take off a hose.

Common questions

Are 1/4 inch pressure washer nozzles universal?

Ryobi says its 1/4 inch quick connect fits most pressure washer brands, and Sun Joe that its turbo nozzle fits washers with standard 1/4 inch quick-connect spray lances. Check the rating against your machine.

Can I use an air compressor quick connect on a pressure washer?

No. Milton rates its M, T, A and V style air couplers and plugs to 300 psi, and Generac's home washer puts out 2900 psi.
