Hoses sold as 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" all have garden hose thread at their ends. That number is the hose’s inside diameter, not its fitting.
Where you’ll find hose thread
On the spout of an outdoor faucet, at both ends of a garden hose, and on washing machine valves and hoses. Outdoor faucet spouts and the far end of a hose have the male thread; the end that screws onto a faucet has the female thread.
It seals with the washer
A hose joint seals on the rubber washer inside the female end, not on the threads, so it needs no tape. When one drips, a new washer is the first fix. Screw the fitting on by hand, then snug it about a quarter turn more.
