What size is an ice maker water line?

Ice maker lines are 1/4" compression at both ends, so the shutoff valve needs a 1/4" outlet. The usual 3/8" sink or toilet valve outlet is the wrong size.

What fits

A shutoff valve with a 1/4" outlet, plus a 1/4" ice maker line

On the package: Valve outlet 1/4 in. O.D. Comp; line 1/4 in. Comp x 1/4 in. Comp

  • Turn the water off at the shutoff valve first. When the line is on, turn the water back on slowly and check both ends for leaks.
  • BrassCraft’s ice maker lines are 1/4" compression x 1/4" compression, 12" to 120" long, for ice makers and humidifiers.
  • So the valve needs a 1/4" O.D. compression outlet. BrassCraft makes angle stops with 1/4" O.D. outlets.
  • No tape or sealant. These lines seal with built-in washers.

A 3/8" sink or toilet valve outlet is the wrong size for a 1/4" ice maker line.
