How to connect a garden hose to PVC pipe

Plain PVC pipe has no threads, so you glue on a fitting that has hose thread on the other end. For the hose’s female end (the end that screws onto a faucet) on 1/2" pipe, use a 1/2" slip x 3/4" MHT PVC hose fitting; for 3/4" pipe, the 3/4" slip version.

  • If the pipe is connected to a water supply, shut the water off first and let the pipe drain.
  • Glue the slip end onto the pipe with PVC primer and cement. Prime the inside of the fitting and the outside of the pipe, cement, push together with a quarter turn and hold for 30 seconds.
  • Glue only the slip end. The hose end takes your hose’s female end, which seals with its washer.
  • Orbit rates these for outdoor, cold water only, and not for constant pressure.
